I think we are obsessed with finding who is first, because we can’t comprehend the possibility that we are truly all alike. We are drawn to those who are strange, who deviate from the mean. Those deviants come and create something great and change things, and that instant after the true mark of divine providence: innovation, everything else is impostership.
God would only ever enlighten one person, once in a while. An ideal world with the empty handed masses, where one individual is taken up and enlightened by an infallible source is what we all envision. Innovation comes from anywhere, we want to believe, and it’s so rare of an exercise that it must be singular by nature.
Anyone else is an imposter. A fake. A fraud.
